Three years later, a new girl sits cross-legged on your bed.
She tastes like a different flavor of bubblegum than you are used to.
She opens up a book that you had to read in high school, and a folded picture of us falls out of chapter three.
Now there are two unfinished stories resting in her lap.
Inevitably, she asks, and you tell her.
You say: I dated her a while back.
You don’t say: Sometimes, when I’m holding you, I imagine the smell of her vanilla perfume.
You say: She was younger than me.
You don’t say: The sixteen summers in her bones warmed the eighteen winters my skin had weathered.
You say: It’s nothing now.
You don’t say: But it was everything then.
Some things are better left unsaid (via dearalexandra)
When I read this piece, I read it a lot differently
So I decided to write it down
Definitely not one of my best at all ‘cause I can’t think straight and I’m running on empty but yeh
Three years later, a new girl sits crossed-legged on my bed
with long brown hair falling perfectly around her frame, giggles through her gap tooth
She tastes like everything bubblegum flavored couldn’t have given me
left me wanting more, left me feeling whole.
She opens up a book I had to read in high school, and a folded
picture of us falls out of chapter three
Inevitably, she asks, and I tell her.
I say: I dated her a while back.
I didn’t say: When I hold you, there’s not a trace of vanilla anymore.
I say: She was younger than me.
I didn’t say: You didn’t know how ruined I was, but you’re here
You’re here now.
I say: It’s nothi—
But her fingers found her way to mine and
a gush of warmth rushed throughout my system
She shook her head, chuckled, and planted the tiniest
of kisses on my nose.
As silent and taken aback as I was,
the gentleness in her eyes then, said everything.
— Some things are better saved for when I’m down on one knee.
